Runnymede in Bloom 2013 winners

The Judging for this year’s Runnymede in Bloom competition, in its 17th year, took place on Saturday 20 July.

The first place winners for each category were:
Residential front garden

  • Sandra Taylor, Thorpe Lea Road, Egham, who entered the competition last year and came 3rd

Senior citizen front garden

  • Yvonne and Alan Bemmer, Middle Hill, Englefield Green, new entrants to the competition this year

Communal garden schemes

  • Riverside Housing (Addlestone) Ltd, Pitson Close, Addlestone, new entrant to the competition this year

Business/pub garden display

  • Ottershaw Social Club, Brox Road, Ottershaw, regular entrants and came 3rd last year

School garden

  • Sayes Court Junior School, Sayes Court Farm Drive, Addlestone. Regular entrant and came 1st last year

Overall front/rear garden scheme

  • Mrs E Harrington, Franklands Drive, Addlestone. Regular entrant and came 3rd last year

Allotments

  • Daphne Price, Pinewood Allotments, Pinewood Avenue, New Haw. Regular entrant and came joint 1st last year

The gardens were judged by:

  • the Mayor of Runnymede, Cllr Yvonna Lay
  • past Mayor, Cllr Linda Gillham
  • Cllr Elaine Gill
  • Cllr John Edwards
  • member of The Weybridge Beekeeping Association, Georje Reed
  • Runnymede Council’s Amenities Officer, Robin Taylor.

Mayor of Runnymede, Cllr Yvonna Lay said: “Despite the changeable weather this year, I’m amazed at the variety of plants and flowers that people have been able to grow.  It’s great to see that there are so many keen gardeners in our borough and that they have also continued the bee and bug friendly gardens that was introduced last year by the past Mayor, Cllr Linda Gillham.

“A big congratulations goes to all those who entered as it was very difficult to decide on the winners with standards being so high.”

Squire’s Garden Centres, whose centres include one in Holloway Hill, Chertsey, provided the prizes again this year.

The Prize Presentation Ceremony will be held on Monday 16 September at the Runnymede Civic Centre and the Mayor will present prizes of Squire’s Garden Centre vouchers to the value of £40 for first place, £20 for second place and £10 for third place in each category.
