Ambassador Barzun will be joined by President Kennedy’s granddaughter Tatiana Schlossberg and Lord Hill, the Leader of the House of Lords.
This event honours the President’s life and his contribution to Anglo-American relations will includes the planting of an oak sapling from Windsor Great Park and the laying of four wreaths:
- On behalf of the President of the United States by the Ambassador HE Matthew Barzun,
- On behalf of the Kennedy family by Tatiana Schlosberg,
- On behalf of Her Majesty’s Government by Lord Hill, and
- On behalf of the Kennedy Memorial Trust by Professor Tony Badger
The Kennedy Memorial is situated at Runnymede, the meadow on the banks of the Thames where King John sealed the Magna Carta in 1215. The memorial is held by the Kennedy Trust and maintained by the National Trust. The Memorial was erected through public subscription in 1965 and the site was given to the people of the United States. Technically, this is the only American soil in the United Kingdom.
