Good Luck if you are going to the Derby tomorrow! Don’t get Scammed!

For the first time in 14 years I won’t be working at the Investec Derby. However Surrey police will be there with our friends from Surrey County Councils Trading Standards Team.

If you see something you DONT think is safe or is merely illegal ring 999 in an emergency or 101 to tell the team what your concerns are. Now read on:

The Investec Epsom Derby Festival is the largest event to take place in Epsom, Surrey on an annual basis, dating back to 1780. The Derby attracts over 120,000 people from around the world.
Besides the horse racing events which take place over the course of the two days, a major part of the Derby Festival is the large market that is held on the famous “Hill” in the centre of the course. Hundreds of traders attend from all over the UK offering for sale a wide variety of goods including clothing, cosmetics, children’s toys, jewellery, sunglasses, baby products, phone accessories etc.

Surrey Trading Standards will be in attendance on Derby day.
We will be carrying out vehicle stops to talk to traders prior to them registering and setting up their stalls on the hill and handing out advice notes explaining the legislation that is applicable to them (there will be big signs to say that we will be doing this). We will subsequently monitor the market to ensure counterfeit and dangerous goods are not being sold.

So if you are going to Epsom either today or tomorrow, enjoy the races, have a good time and browse the market knowing that we are working behind the scenes to keep you safe!
