On Saturday in Egham it’s Magna Carta Day and the usual celebrations will be in evidence but turn up early or the stalls will sell out of your favourite eats and gifts. You’ll find Runnymede Police staff patrolling up there so say Hi! to Debbie and Dibble. Both are on ‘regimes’ so the cakes will be safe but Iain will probably be lurking near the coffee shops!
On Sunday which is the true 799th anniversary of when King John sealed the document of Magna Carta (Q. Where? A. At the bottom!) there will be a grand giant picnic just off the Windsor Road on the National Trust land. Be warned traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic lights system up by the Magna Carta tea rooms from noon, so please DriveSMART and proceed with caution!
See your personal invitation below.
have a great time.
And now for the $64,000 question: Will you enjoy the 799th anniversary of this event more than the 800th? To find out you’ll have to come back NEXT YEAR and join us for events big and small across the Borough of Runnymede to commemorate the first recording of our rights and freedoms.
