“Then please send in your nominations for this year’s Runnymede Sports Awards which have now opened.” said Chairman of Sport Runnymede, Tony Babbage OBE.

Chairman of Community Services Committee, Cllr Marisa Heath said: “These awards provide a fantastic opportunity to recognise and reward talented local athletes, coaches, volunteers, teams and clubs for their outstanding achievements in sport over the past 12 months.”

This year’s award categories are below.

  • Sports Personality of the Year
  • Young Sports Personality of the Year
  • Sports Club of the Year
  • Active Surrey Coach of the Year
  • Sports Team of the Year
  • Young Sports Team of the Year
  • Disability Sports Award
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Surrey County Playing Fields Association Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Outstanding Service to Sport

Tony Babbage went on to say that the awards evening will once again be held at Foxhills Club and Resort, Ottershaw. “This will be the fourth year running that Foxhills will be hosting the evening. Where better to hold the celebration of sporting achievement in Runnymede bearing in mind the resorts excellent track record of local sports and leisure provision and generous support of local sport in the community.”

The closing date for nominations is Sunday 31 August 2014. The online process is hosted by Active Surrey and to make a nomination visit the Active Surrey(Opens in a new window)(Opens in a new window)  website.

Those who win a local award will automatically go through to the assessment panel for the county awards; Surrey Sports Awards 2014, providing they meet the county nomination criteria. Those who are successfully short-listed for the county awards will be contacted by Active Surrey.
