A woman who was bullied at school and had a spell staying a hostel for homeless people has received recognition from a national education organisation after transforming her life through study.

Chrissy Abraham, 34, from Guildford, has won NIACE’s Learning to Achieve Regional Award after completing English, Maths and IT courses run by Surrey County Council’s adult learning service.

Join Surrey’s Summer Reading Challenge

Young readers across Surrey are being invited to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

The free annual event, which begins in all Surrey County Council’s libraries on Saturday 11 July, challenges children aged four to 11 to read six books over the summer holidays.
